Monika Kaden

An internationally known artist who received her MFA at NYSCC at Alfred University, New York with post graduate degrees from Gerrit Rietfield Academy of Art and Design, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and University of Art and Design, Halle, Germany. She feels her life and art operate as one, with each being the inspiration for the other, with the ultimate goal of her art is that it becomes a work of many disciplines (Gesamtkunstwerk).

Having been educated in the Bauhaus tradition with its extreme rules, she has discovered her own need to express the freedom of living and working in different cultures, which continues to be an ongoing adventure of discovery.  Her art is a journal of this journey which combines her cultural background with themes of restriction and liberation, where she can explore new materials and techniques to express the experience of being a free person in the western world.

This freedom is mirrored through her art by utilizing an unlimited combination of materials in the same way our lives are a combination of different influences. In addition she incorporates writing, music, movement and light within the work as essential ingredients necessary to complete her expression.
