Artisans Chanin Cook and Jonathan Edie work together to create forms with a contemporary aesthetic, which contrast nicely with the earthly, textural materials that are often incorporated into their surfaces. The work is distinctive and intriguing, as well as being timeless in the sense that each piece will continue to define its space for generations to come.
Their furniture-making evolved out of a curiosity for materials and functionality. Designs for their furniture typically begin on scraps of paper, drawn from keen observations that focus on the design and functionality of everyday objects.
The sketches take life as details are discussed and materials considered. The construction is then worked out in their shop and the designs are realized with materials and functionality in mind. Today, they design and build sixteen collections featuring an ever evolving list of materials such as textured metals, exotic and domestic woods, fossilized limestone, petrified wood and select leathers.
